Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla — Steel Cutting of India’s First All-Electric Green Tug
The Green Tug Transition Programme (GTTP) reached a milestone as the steel-cutting ceremony for India’s first all-electric green tug — for DPA Kandla — was flagged off by Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways. The new tug will have a 60-ton bollard pull capacity, deliver silent operations, zero carbon emissions, and high energy efficiency, underlining the shift toward sustainable maritime operations. The event signals India’s commitment under GTTP to modernize its port infrastructure and significantly reduce maritime carbon footprint — aligning with national Net-Zero and “Make in India” goals. This initiative positions DPA as a front-runner in green port transformation and marks a broader push by the Ministry toward clean energy integration in shipping and port services.
