MP Transport Commissioner Vivek Sharma Seeks Study Leave
Vivek Sharma (IPS: 1998), who is currently serving as the Transport Commissioner of Madhya Pradesh, has applied for study leave beginning April 2026, according to sources within the state government. Sharma has already completed two years of his LLB programme and now plans to pursue a specialised academic course focusing on the newly introduced criminal laws under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. His proposed area of study includes an in-depth understanding of the practical implementation of these laws and the evolving standards related to the admissibility of digital evidence in judicial proceedings.
Sharma’s request for study leave comes at a time when the state is undergoing a wider administrative reshuffle, prompting the government to examine possible replacements for the Transport Commissioner’s post. The move reflects Sharma’s intent to strengthen his legal expertise, which he believes will enhance his administrative effectiveness and prepare him for future responsibilities. Emphasising the value of continuous learning, Sharma told WITC that officers should actively utilise study leave opportunities to gain expertise in emerging legal and governance frameworks. Among the officers being considered as potential successors are Indore Commissioner Santosh Singh, noted for his contributions to urban mobility initiatives, and ADG (Ujjain Division) Umesh Joga, recognised for his experience in enforcement and logistics. Official approval for Sharma’s study leave is awaited, though sources indicate it is likely to be granted given his service record.
