MDL marks milestone with Keel Laying of second 7,500 DWT hybrid MPV for Navi Merchants
The Keel Laying Ceremony for the second vessel (Yard 21002) of the 7,500 DWT Multi-Purpose Hybrid Vessel (MPV) series for Navi Merchants, Denmark, was held at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL), a Navratna DPSU, on 17 November 2025 at the North Yard. Production for this vessel began on 16 October 2024.
The ceremony was presided over by Biju George, Director (Shipbuilding), in the presence of Simon Rodian Christensen, CEO, Navi Merchants, senior representatives from the company, officials from the DNV classification society, and MDL’s leadership.
Under the export contract, MDL will design, build, and deliver six Multi-Purpose Vessels, each valued at approximately USD 14 million. The vessel measures 116.2 meters in length, has a deadweight capacity of 7,500 tonnes, and features a Hybrid Propulsion System capable of achieving 11 knots with an 85 kW shaft generator power take-off. The ship will be constructed under DNV survey and certification rules.
The keel laying marks a key milestone in the construction of this prestigious export series, reinforcing MDL’s growing global footprint in advanced vessel manufacturing.
