Will Bhushan Gagarani head MERC?

Speculation is rife in Maharashtra’s power sector circles that senior IAS officer Bhushan Gagaranimay may take over as Chairman of the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) in the coming months. Gagarani, a 1990 batch IAS officer, has held several key assignments and is seen as a seasoned hand in handling complex regulatory and administrative matters.

If appointed, he would be expected to steer the Commission through challenges related to tariff reforms, utility finances, and energy transition in the state. The final decision, however, will depend on the completion of the due process and formal government notification.
