Veteran retired IPS and IFS officers recognised as India’s key Nepal affairs experts
Several retired IPS and IFS officers are widely regarded as subject-matter experts on Nepal affairs due to their extensive professional experience in the Himalayan nation. Many of these officers have served for long durations in diplomatic, intelligence, and strategic roles connected to India–Nepal relations. Prominent names include former 1976-batch IPS officer Alok Joshi, former Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran, former IPS officer Rakesh Sood, retired IFS officer Ranjit Rae, and 1984-batch IPS officer Vivek Johri. Their combined experience continues to guide policy discussions, regional diplomacy, and security cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
