Contenders for the Next CBI Director
Speculation over the potential successor of current CBI Director Praveen Sood has intensified as his tenure nears its conclusion in May 2026. Among the prominent names being discussed is G.P. Singh, a 1991-batch IPS officer of the Assam–Meghalaya cadre, who is widely regarded as a strong contender due to his extensive field and administrative experience.
Another officer under consideration is Rajeev Sharma, a 1990-batch IPS officer currently serving as Director General of Police, Rajasthan. In addition, sources indicate that the name of another serving Director General from a state cadre is also in circulation, though no official confirmation has been made.
The selection process will follow the statutory mechanism involving a high-level committee, with emphasis on seniority, integrity, and experience in handling complex investigations.
