Deendayal Port Authority Becomes Fastest Major Port to Reach 100 Million Tons in FY 2025–26

Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the fastest Indian Major Port to handle 100 Million Tons of cargo in the ongoing financial year 2025–26. This achievement, reached much earlier than previous fiscal records, highlights the port’s exceptional operational strength, strong cargo-handling efficiency, and seamless coordination among stakeholders and port users. With this performance, DPA Kandla continues to stand at the forefront of India’s maritime growth, reinforcing its status as the nation’s most dependable and performance-driven EXIM gateway.

Crossing the 100 MMT mark ahead of schedule reflects the port’s consistent upward growth and its capability to handle rising cargo volumes across liquid, dry bulk, breakbulk, and container segments. This accomplishment further strengthens India’s ambition for world-class port-led development under the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision, unlocking significant opportunities for trade, logistics, and industrial expansion across the western coast.

DPA Kandla’s lead in reaching this milestone once again cements its position as India’s top-performing Major Port—driven by speed, scale, and skill. The achievement aligns closely with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, reinforcing the port’s commitment to strengthening India’s maritime leadership on the global stage.

This performance directly supports national goals by:

  • Enhancing India’s maritime competitiveness
  • Boosting EXIM growth
  • Improving ease of doing business for trade and logistics
  • Strengthening connectivity and efficiency across Gujarat and the northern hinterland

The early achievement of the 100 MMT mark is a result of DPA Kandla’s outstanding operational capability and cohesive teamwork across all departments. High marine and berth productivity, improved cargo evacuation systems, and enhanced hinterland connectivity have ensured uninterrupted cargo movement round the clock. Continuous improvements to storage yards, digital systems, and logistics infrastructure have also contributed significantly to this success.

Equally crucial has been the strong coordination between departments: the Traffic Department ensured smooth cargo planning and flow; the Marine Department maintained safe and efficient vessel movements; the Mechanical and Civil Departments ensured equipment and infrastructure readiness; and the CISF Unit, Finance, General Administration, and other supporting teams enabled flawless operations behind the scenes.

This milestone also reflects the tireless efforts of port workers (Shramiks), officers, marine pilots, stevedores, and employees who work day and night. Their dedication, combined with the support of shipping lines, CHAs, importers, exporters, customs authorities, and trade partners, has played a central role in achieving this record.

Sushil Kumar Singh, IRSME, Chairman of DPA, congratulated the entire port community and extended gratitude to all stakeholders. He stated:
“Crossing 100 Million Tons in record time is a proud moment for DPA Kandla and for India’s maritime fraternity. This milestone is the result of the relentless efforts of our Shramiks, officers, employees, marine crew, port users, stevedores, vessel agents, and trade partners who ensure the 24x7 functioning of the Port. DPA Kandla remains fully aligned with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision for making India’s maritime sector a global leader and achieving the goals of Viksit Bharat 2047. We are setting new operational benchmarks while also leading India’s green maritime transformation through Green Hydrogen and renewable energy initiatives. This milestone is a collective achievement and a foundation for even greater success ahead.”

With major capacity expansion, digitalisation, green energy adoption, and infrastructure upgrades underway, DPA Kandla is on course to scale new milestones and redefine maritime excellence in India.
