DigiYatra launched at AAI’s Varanasi Airport to achieve contactless, seamless processing of passengers based on facial recognition technology

DigiYatra was launched at AAI’s Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport, Varanasi on 1 st December, 2022. In an event organised at Delhi International Airport, Hon’ble Union Minister of Civil Aviation inaugurated the service for Delhi International Airport and virtually launched the facility for Varanasi and Bengaluru Airport. Conceived by DigiYatra Foundation under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the project is aimed to achieve contactless, seamless processing of passengers at airports based on Facial Recognition Technology (FRT). On this occasion, Honourable Minister said that the project envisages a traveller today pass through various check points at the airports through a paperless and contactless processing using facial features to establish her identity which could be linked to the boarding pass. To use this facility, one-time registration on Digi Yatra App is required using Aadhar based validation and a self-image capture. The project has tremendous advantages of improving passenger convenience and and ease of travel. During the launch at Varanasi Airport, Smt Aryama Sanyal, Airport Director welcomed and greeted the first passenger of the new facility, who was travelling from Varanasi to Delhi by Indigo Airlines.
